Our first concert of 2016 and our first to be led by our new musical director was a performance of DVORAK’s MASS IN D MAJOR, together with a set of European sacred melodies, on 19th March 2016 at St John's Church, Hugglescote. There were some wonderful organ pieces played by Leicester cathedral organist, Simon Headley and superb solos from acclaimed soprano, Caroline Essex.
This concert of beautiful music was very well received by an appreciative audience.
This was followed by our Summer Concert - ‘JULY JAZZ’ a “café-style” evening at Ibstock Community College where were joined by the Brian Humpherson Jazz Quntet. This concert was a huge success!
In November we performed Handel's MESSIAH at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Ashby-de-la-Zouch.
With the addition of professional soloists and orchestra, this was a superb concert enjoyed by a capacity audience, once again confirming the poularity of ‘Messiah’.
Our final performance of 2016 was our traditional CHRISTMAS CAROL CONCERT at St. John the Baptist Church, Hugglescote on Friday 16th December, where we were again joined by the Leicestershire Co-op Snibston Brass Band.
With some trepidation it was decided to change the performance from its traditional Saturday to Friday for this year’s concert, mainly to avoid clashes with other local events (not to mention the final of Strictly Come Dancing on TV). However the concert was very well supported, surpassing the attendance of some previous years, and hugely enjoyed.
Our first concert of 2017 will be a performance of the Fauré Requiem and works by Vaughan Williams and Turner. See the News/Concerts page for more details.
